When I was in high school D-Day already seemed like ancient history. It is hard to realize that my graduation day was closer to D-Day (33 years) then today is to my graduation day (35 years). I guess that should give me an idea of how modern high school kids view the 70s.

Whenever I think about D-Day though, my mind actually goes back two years, to June 4 – 7 of 1942, when the Battle of Midway was fought. Midway is one of the most amazing military stories of all human history. I wonder how many kids today even know what happened those three days, how many men died, how desperate the situation was for the USA in the Pacific until that battle, and how the outcome of that battle altered the entire course of the war, and therefore, probably, human history.
