This not only raises serious questions about your ability to serve as the head of the Justice Department, but also begs the question of why an anti-gun Administration would knowingly force licensed firearms dealers to sell guns to violent criminals. I raise this because Operation Fast and Furious — if the facts of this case had not come to light — would have been used by this Administration as another false argument to attack law-abiding American gun owners.
via Rep. Joe Walsh to Eric Holder: You better resign immediately, buddy « Hot Air.
Operation “Fast and Furious” is not some fluke or wild idea of the Obama administration. The operation is an open window into the way this administration operates, with all the implications that brings with it. I’ll break it down for you.
- It was 100% ideologically driven. This administration believes American citizens cannot be trusted with guns
- It was dangerously amateurish
- It demonstrates callous, reckless disregard for human lives
- It’s true target was to subvert the US Constitution
- It was designed to punish law-abiding citizens
- It demonstrated complete disregard for international diplomatic courtesies
- It requires everyone from Obama on down to lie under oath with full knowledge of their mendacity
- It relies heavily on a fawning, ideologically aligned media to cover it up
- It is fundamentally illegal, immoral and unethical
- There will be no accountability
- The majority of the American people will not believe the truth could be possible in this country
- They will get away with murder

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI don’t know about all that “amateur” or “reckless disregard” stuff.
This program worked exactly as intended. (I continue to express my exasperation with those who believe that Obama is incompetent.) The only problem is that they got caught.
Oh, wait. The problem isn’t that they got caught. The problem is that they got caught by someone who actually reported on what was going on.
Oh, wait. There has been scant reporting of this on NBC, CBS, or ABC. Or in Time. Or in the NYT.
So, I guess #12 is true. Which, of course, is what makes me question #2.
Drax:
Whether Obama is incompetent or not, his lackeys certainly frequently are.
Here are just a few of the things that I believe demonstrate the rank incompetence of the Obama administration officials who were involved in this, including Obama himself.
1. Obama revealed the operation himself back in March in an interview with a Mexican reporter, even though there had been no mainstream media coverage of the operation at all. This “slip of the tongue” was the main reason that Congressional investigators have been able to latch on Holder’s testimony before Congress back in May having been deliberate perjury.
2. Eric Holder was completely unaware that Obama had made the comment above and so perjured himself before Congress.
3. The operation’s supposed goal was to trace weapons through illegal channels to identify where guns were flowing into Mexican gang’s hands, and yet there is zero evidence whatsoever that any bureau within the administration actually attempted to follow a single weapon. This “dump and run” activity will likely be what eventually damns the operation and forces Holder to resign. Had they had the sense to just follow a couple hundred weapons they could at least have some plausible deniability about the true purpose of the program. As it stands, their lack of effort to even PRETEND that the operation was about finding drug gang contacts will be the final straw for most of the country that actually pays any attention to this stuff.
4. Eric Holder has demonstrated the classic political scandal mistake, and it is likely that in the end he will be held accountable not for the operation itself (which I think came directly from Obama) but for the incompetent cover-up.
5. But by far the biggest evidence of high-level incompetence is that the very desire to pursue this operation and willingness to actually do so reveals a level of arrogance and ideological blindness so stunning that no matter how “smart” or “capable” the people behind it are, the risk of this coming to light just in time to become a major re-election scandal shows a remarkable tin ear to fundamental political realities in this country. If Obama thought this thing would fly under the radar so smoothly that he was willing to risk re-election for it, that itself is evidence of a level of political incompetence that is breathtaking. It is overreach at the most fundamental level.
I’ll give you most of the above. I certainly agree that the Administration (throughout) has displayed a degree of incompetence when it comes to implementation of their plans.
I’ll throw in this caveat, however: Much of the incompetence you detail arises from the belief that what they do simply won’t be reported upon, and, if the reporting is actually forthcoming, it will be designed to cover for the Administration rather than to reveal their criminal behavior. They have, in greatest part, a solid foundation for this belief.
Further, the “one hand doesn’t know what the other hand is doing” can just as easily be (in great part) explained by purposeful ignorance so to retain plausible deniability.
But, I agree with the thrust of what you’re saying. Were this group of true believers actually GOOD at what they were attempting, the country would be in even far worse shape than it currently is.
