I’m not going to be linking anything here. This is just my observations after three or four days of surfing from one link to another on the climate-gate “scandal.” It’s almost two weeks now since the “hacker” first posted the email messages. Email messages that provide absolute proof of the following things:
- Global Warming “top scientists” routinely manipulated their data, cherry picking data points so religiously that you can make a plausible argument that the entire “consensus” of AGW is based on three hand-picked trees from a sample size of dozens of trees, the rest of which were ignored. Besides this these emails reveal that AGW “researchers” routinely combined data from widely divergent sources to smooth away any troubling cooling trends. And that’s not even mentioning that virtually ALL of the “data” that the CRU and UN use as “proof” of AGW has been massaged from the start and that the original data is claimed to have been lost in a computer upgrade. In other words ALL of this entire house of cards is based on admittedly “cooked” data which cannot be verified by independent analysis. This is about as anti-science as you can get and it is CLEAR from the emails that this is the case.
- These same scientists ran this cooked data through flawed and rigged computer “models” which have deliberate fudge factors built into them when the data does not do what the AGW advocates want it to do. Those “models” are the same computer models which the UN uses as the basis for demanding that the developed world CRIPPLE our economic systems to “stop” something that is not proven to even happen. Those same models have NOT ACCURATELY PREDICTED actual temperature readings for over a DOZEN YEARS. When a theory and a model does not predict actual physical results, real scientists modify the theory or model.
- These same “scientists” deliberately sought to stifle dissenting opinions by having editors who do not toe the AGW line fired, publications blackballed until they comply with editorial demands and rules of “peer review” arbitrarily changed to keep any dissenting views out of “scientific” papers submitted to UN or other governmental panels. This is not merely bad science, this is corrupt science. This is the sort of thing that Galileo was fighting. When scientists deliberately shut down dissent, they are no longer scientists.
- These same “scientists” ILLEGALLY ignored legal requests to provide their data based on Freedom of Information requests, and CONSPIRED to hide data, analysis and computer code from other scientists. This goes beyond mere corruption of the scientific method and into the realm of FELONIOUS refusal to abide by local, national and international laws. For this alone these “scientists” should be facing prosecution ALREADY.
- These same “scientists” repeatedly discussed the destruction of data if forced to reveal it. In fact the key data that underlies virtually all of AGW “science” is now said to have been “lost” just TWO YEARS after the top AGW scientist sent emails threatening to destroy the data instead of making it available for peer reveiw.
These are facts. Because these facts exist and are clearly evident to anyone who cares to examine these emails critically, you might think that this would be a huge blow to the forces of AGW alarmists who are trying to control virtually every aspect of our daily lives, and to redistribute TRILLIONS of dollars of wealth from developed countries to UN controlled slush funds which will be run by corrupt UN officials and sent to corrupt third world leaders.
But it’s not. And the fact that it is not a huge blow demonstrates how far down the AGW rabbit hole our world leaders have fallen. It’s not about “science” any more, and never really has been. It’s not about “climate” either. It’s purely and entirely about power and money. And when you are talking about the power to take trillions of dollars and move it around arbitrarily, and you are talking about the power to tell people what kind of lights they can have in their house, what kind of cars they can have in their garage and what kind of jobs they can look forward to in the future, that kind of power is not given up easily.
One comment I read on this subject very neatly summed it up. “Climategate” is not the Battle of Gondor. It’s Helm’s Deep. It’s the battle the good guys LOST because the forces of evil were still far too powerful and simply overran the good guys. The orc armies are still too large, Sauron is still too firmly entrenched in his tower and the odds are still looking very bad for the good guys. It’s going to take another battle for the good guys to rout the AGW forces, and right now I don’t see that battle shaping up anywhere on the horizon.
It MIGHT start shaping up next year, but “Climategate” will not be the decisive victory that reasonable skeptics hoped it would be when the obvious evidence of fraud, corruption and illegal activity was revealed. That would be too easy.

My cynical side tells me that this is damage control by UEA and the “investigation” is more likely to be a “whitewash.” Even if they are serious about investigating Jones, he will become the fall guy and the rest of the fraternity will just carry on with the same processes.
That’s probably true, but in the very least it may result in increased attention to this issue.
I guess the outcome for Jones and the CRU will somewhat depend upon just how thorough and ‘independent’ this investigation really is.
The only rational course of action to follow based on this scandal is to require climate scientists to follow the same scientific rigor and computer software requirements and audits that are applied in the pharmaceutical, nuclear, medical and aerospace industries. When climate models can take data up to 1990 and predict the next 20 years (to 2010) with reasonable accuracy, then and ONLY THEN should any policy decisions be based on the “science”.
Since this is the only rational course of action, it is precisely the last thing that will be considered. Because this isn’t about science and isn’t about climate.
With an investigation ongoing at Penn State, I’m not sure this thing is over yet. It seems there’s enough evidence available for a local prosecutor to get involved if there are state statutes in Pennsylvania. Under Obama, it’s unlikely we’ll see the feds get involved, although a reshaped Congress one year from now might be able to do something.
What’s important is to keep this fraudulence alive and in front of likely voters; ie, blog readers. The MSM is not reporting this, only Fox. The MSM gave it lip service this past weekend on their Sunday morning shows, but you won’t hear anything further from them until it reaches legal proportions. So that leaves the blogosphere as the last resort. Fortunately, that’s a politically active group.
The ObowMao camp is defending the Climate Change as being scientifically sound, after all it was a consensus that agreed there was Global Warming.
This is and always has been about control over the masses. Even with the lie about the data being exposed as the fraud that it is, the left is turning this into a religion, its to gain control over as many aspects of your life that they can get.
