So, I always seem to do things backwards. To have a reasonably sized play area, I printed out 16 pages of .4″ wide hexagons and then taped them together into a single sheet roughly 3′x4′ wide. Then I covered it with clear shelving paper to laminate it and protect it from spilled drinks, etc.

That’s when I realized that you can’t just buy any size of hole punch you desire. Sure they MAKE 5/8″ circle paper punchers, but you can’t find them at a hobby store. You can find 1″, 1.5″ and even 3/4″, but the size I need? Nope. And the 3/4″ I did find (which is just slightly too big) won’t punch 2mm thick piece of foam board, it’s too thick to slide into the punch area.

So now I have this huge board and I’m still having to improvise the pieces I’m using to play test it. Arg… Of course one option is to print out a new board with .5″ hexes, which the 3/4″ circles work perfectly with… I may have to do just that…

By the way, why is it that a .5″ hexagon will hold an entire 3/4″ circle? Am I that bad at math?
