Anyone who beleives that the Republican Congress is a conservative Congress can look at the result of this vote on the Coburn Amendment which attempted to move money from a boondoggle bridge in Alaska to a Katrina destroyed bridge in Louisiana. Of particular notice is the debate rhetoric where Republican Senators threatened a scorched earth policy on Senators from other states who dared to question their own pork. If you want my opinion, from the perspective of a conservative, this is a much bigger scandal than the DeLay indictment, or perhaps even the Plame Name Game investigation. 82 Senators voted to keep nearly half a billion dollars going to Alaska to build a bridge that leads every list of pork I’ve seen, both from the right and the left. And why? PowerLine has a good take on that.
Do us all a favor and write your state senators to either thank them or spank them.

Indeed he does. I have rarely seen someone put it all on the table like he did. The debate on his amendment should have been page 1 news in every paper in the country. What page do you think the NYT will put it on tomorrow?
