Yeah, it’s the last day of September and the Rockies are currently three games ahead of the Atlanta Braves fighting for the NL wild card spot. In fact they are still mathematically alive in the race for the NL West division title (although that will likely be wrapped up tonight by the LA Dodgers). A 3 game lead with five to play would seem to be a pretty comfortable place to be, except the Rockies play three against the Los Angeles Dodgers, while the Braves play four against the worst team in baseball, the Washington Nationals. So it’s not nearly as comfortable as it looks. Last time the Rockies went to Los Angeles, they got swept in a three game series…

Still, it’s interesting to contemplate that whatever happens today, the Colorado Rockies will start October with the lead in the NL Wild Card race after starting the season 20 – 32. That is pretty remarkable. Gotta give them credit, it’s been a fun year to be a Rockies fan.

Of course they won’t make the playoffs. Not a chance in heck.
