Forget about the fact that journalists are among the most ignorant, arrogant, self-righteous human beings to ever walk the earth. Forget that they have thrown journalistic ethics to the winds in promoting one liberal candidate after another and savaging one conservative politician after another.
Let’s just focus on CNN putting the word “fart” on their front page today in a headline.

For a couple in their sixties, Cynthia MacGregor and her live-in partner, Grant, have few hang-ups about personal boundaries: In their household, the bathroom door is always open, regardless of what’s taking place inside.
I guess “fart” isn’t one of the seven deadly words for publication, but even so, I would not say that word in polite company, or even mostly casual company. For CNN to use it in a headline demonstrates that there really are no standards left whatsoever in the media.

Media wants to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
Style rules seem to cycle. The pressure to “get real” and speak more bluntly increases when the public feel those in power are too secretive.
But after the dirty laundry and mundane details of private lives are repeatedly reviewed in the papers, people seem to tire of the “you’re no better than us” game. At that time, professionalism can seem like a breath of fresh air.
Rinse, repeat.
