I don’t have a link because I’m too lazy (and busy) to go dig one out, but I read a story in the last few days where one of the people on the short list to run the EPA in an Obama administration basically warned that in an Obama administration if the Congress can’t pass restrictive new environmental legislation, the EPA will impose it by executive fiat.
Areas he predicted an Obama administration crackdown include:
- Oil and gas exploration and drilling on federal land.
- Access to logging on federal land.
- Mining on federal land.
- Recreational access to federal land (particularly using any motorized vehicles such as 4-wheelers and snowmobiles).
- Hunting or fishing on federal land.
In a nutshell, look for an Obama administration to start implementing the radical environmental lobby’s most desired policies through executive order and through EPA policy statements. The question is how long it will take for people to start realizing what they’ve done by electing Obama President. Especially in states like Colorado. If Colorado goes for Obama, and that ends up being the swing state that gives him the election, I predict Colorado will be the first state to go into revolt against Obama’s draconian “environmental” policies. Many of the Leftist moonbats who live here will find some of their favorite activities seriously impacted by an Obama EPA. And many independent voters here will suffer through the economic disaster such policies will have in a state where mining, logging and oil and gas are a huge part of the state economy. One thing that will shut down immediately in an Obama administration is the whole oil shale economy, which is just now getting off the ground.
It’s gonna be an interesting four years folks.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackIsn’t it interesting that as Obama’s poll numbers climb the market drops?
I fear for this country if Obama gets elected.
Actually, now that I think about it, it was a candidate for Secretary of the Interior who was speaking… I think…. Most of this week is really just a blur…
The title of this post sounds familiar…
Heh… it’s like the Daily Toon!
Yeah, I stole it. I originally had it titled “The Coming Obama Theocracy” since I consider moonbat environmentalism to be a religion, but decided “thugocracy” more accurately reflected the likely disregard for appropriate legal mechanisms to set such policies.
Hope you don’t mind too much…
Whatever…I’m sure no one noticed but me.
I think we may find many reasons to recycle that title in the next three months…
The problem is, come February, we may find it impossible to use such titles…. When Obama’s green-shirted thugs come knocking, I can guarantee you I will give proper credit for the headline.
I’ve always dreamt of being a political prisoner. I wonder if Amnesty International will bail me out?
“decided “thugocracy†more accurately reflected the likely disregard for appropriate legal mechanisms to set such policies.”
You must have coined this term in reference to the Bush Whitehouse then, huh?
Oh look, we have a liberal troll infected with BDS here on the blog…
To those who value economic and religious liberty, freedom of speech, freedom of self-determination, traditional values, meritocracy and other similar concepts Obama’s Big Goverment toads will no doubt operate as thugs and his administration will be aptly considered a Thugocracy.
Know this, libster, any Obama victory will be short-lived once the American people realize they’ve elected a socialist radical as POTUS. And they’ll spend the next several election cycles setting things right (pun intended).
Are you:
For all of your ideological peers’ moonbat rantings about the “thugs” in the Bush White House, if anything criticism and dissent has thrived and grown in the last 8 years, not the reverse. Bush has not once tried to shut down political dissent, in fact he seems to welcome it.
Let’s see how Obama does when people start criticizing him. His record so far is not very promising. His attorneys have sued radio stations to shut them down, and his electronic thugs have systematically coordinated efforts to jam the phone lines of talk show hosts who criticize him.
The evidence is clear ALREADY that Obama is much more comfortable crushing dissent than Bush. And that’s BEFORE the resurrection of the conservative voice crushing “Fairness doctrine” whose primary purpose is to shut down shows like Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity.
Of course “evidence” and “fact” are not really the sorts of things that the Left cares much about.
Cosmic: Just a question, and if you don’t know the answer don’t take the time to find out.
You wrote, “One thing that will shut down immediately in an Obama administration is the whole oil shale economy, which is just now getting off the ground.”
Even though shale oil is not an issue here in LA, it did hit our local news outlets recently when our worthless Senator Mary Landrieu switched her position, became the deciding vote, and voted to shut down a good bit of shale oil production in CO. Mary is not normally anti-energy production, but it seems that she owed a favor to your worthless Senator Ken Salazar, and he called it in.
At the time, oil was trading way above $100, and a good bit of noise was made about her flip-flop. Newt’s “drill here, drill now” thing was picking up steam, etc.
I was wondering if you had heard any news reports, or read anything locally that indicate what “floor” price of oil makes it profitable for shale oil to be extracted. I mean, at $140, I know everybody was ready to go! At $70 or less, would the companies carry on, or put it on hold?
Sure, I know that oil p/b prices are going to rise again. Boone Pickens was in SHV two days ago predicting $300 p/b if we don’t “act now”…of course, he’s selling his own plan…
I was just wondering if you had heard at what barrel price it becomes profitable, or if lingering low oil prices might shut it down (before Obama and Salazar do)? I know that there are tremendous reserves in CO, and those reserves could be a huge boon to the State.
Andy:
I’m literally too tired to go look this up, so I am relying entirely on memory.
Back when I first heard about oil shale, oh, decades ago, the “floor price” of oil that would make oil shale extraction cost competitive was around $35 a barrel. I still hear that number bandied about, but I also hear $50, which seems a fair adjustment for inflation.
However, that’s also before you factor in the upfront cost of developing the infrastructure, and when you do that I’ve seen estimates that range into the low $70 range, at least for long enough to recoup some of that up front cost.
My best guess is that in 2008 dollars, oil shale could be cost competitive somewhere around $60 or so, but as I said, that’s just off the top of my head. It could be significantly higher or lower than that, especially with some of the new technologies they’ve been experimenting with to reduce the cost.
Cosmic: Thanks for the info. I know you’re tired, and didn’t want you to try to research it. You’ve got a good memory for an old, tired guy.
I’ll trust “the top of your head.” Get some rest.
