Every time I see the name of a celebrity that I watched and enjoyed in my youth, it makes me feel older and closer to the grave myself. George Carlin was only 71. Tim Russert passed away a few days ago, he was only 58 (ten years older than me).
I wasn’t a great fan of George Carlin, I certainly had more appreciation for Bill Cosby or Bob Newhart or even Richard Pryor, but he had some funny moments. I think I have posted before about comedy and comedic performances so I won’t delve back into that here. George was a funny and smart guy, and I’ll miss him.

I’ll miss him, too.
Wore out 3 needles on the turntable, and two cassettes. One of a kind for sure!
“A dog exploded on a busy downtown intersection today. No one was injured in the blast. However, it is estimated that 42 fleas lost their lives in the explosion and several people were overcome by fur.”
I still don’t know why that’s funny to me, but I can still remember guffawing with abandon when first I heard it.
Late in his career, he became more a “preacher” than a comedian, in my opinion, but he was funny as heck sometimes to be sure.
I think my favorite is his observation of the evolution of the term “coward” to “shell shock” to “battle fatigue” to “post traumatic stress disorder”. He could absolutely make some observations of the human condition which will be missed.
