Senator Larry Craig mulls resignation today.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Several well-placed GOP sources in Washington and Idaho have told CNN that embattled Republican Sen. Larry Craig is likely to resign soon, possibly as early as Friday.

Republican Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho was arrested in June at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

A GOP source with knowledge of the situation told CNN’s Dana Bash that the Republican National Committee was poised to take the extraordinary step of calling on Craig to resign.

I dunno, I see things like La. Congressman William Jefferson refusing to resign after police found $100,000 in bribe money wrapped up in aluminum foil in his refrigerator, Bill Clinton refusing to resign after engaging in extra-marital sex with an office intern (geez, I can’t imagine what would happen to me if I had sex with an intern at work! I’d be fired on the spot I’m sure, and rightly so. An INTERN?). Ted Kennedy laughing off several well-documented sex scandals, including some of dubious female permission… etc…

I find the whole thing to be disgusting, but should he resign? I’m more of the opinion that this does not rise to the “high crimes and misdemeanors” that require his expulsion, and in my mind they should leave it up to his constituents. Call a special election or something. But resignation just because of this story seems a bit of overkill to me.
