I think I already made this point, so I’m not surprised to see it confirmed by this report. The question is what are we going to do about it?

World Tribune.com — Report: Iran ordered abductions to avenge defections LONDON — Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps launched a campaign against the U.S.-led coalition in response to the defection and detention of senior regime officials, according to a newspaper report. Iranian sources said the IRGC abducted British sailors in Shatt Al Arab on March 23 to retaliate for the defection of senior Iranian officials and officers. They said IRGC has blamed Britain and the United States for the defections of senior members of the Quds Brigade.

Um… in case you are wondering, capturing uniformed soldiers who are not in your waters is an acknowledged act of war. So Iran has, in effect, declared war on Britain and by extension the entire coalition, including the U.S.

As if this isn’t clear enough, it is a violation of the Geneva conventions to accuse anyone in uniform of espionage, that’s why it is so important to the Geneva conventions to WEAR uniforms if you are a combatant, and also is why detaining and interrogating those who DON’T wear uniforms but are found fighting you on the field of battle is NOT a violation of the Geneva conventions.

And that means in today’s bizarro world of anti-US politics you will hear Howard Dean accuse GW Bush of violating the Geneva Conventions (when he hasn’t) and will NOT hear Howard Dean accuse Iran of violaing the Geneva Conventions (when they have).
