First of all, I would like to sincerly apologize to all Redskins fans for momentarily rooting for your team. You can blame RG III’s knee and an ultimate playoff debacle on me, I suppose.
Anyway, this game proves a couple of things about the NFL.
1. Quarterbacks will lie about their ability to play if they are able to. Trusting an NFL QB to say “Nah, I’m not the guy. Put in the backup.” is an exercise in futility.
2. Mike Shanahan is an idiot.
Of course I’ve been pointing out what an idiot Mike Shanahan is for years.
I do hope RG III’s knee is not seriously damaged. Watching it buckle to the side in the fourth quarter yesterday, I’m afraid that I believe it probably is. In that case I hope he can fully recover. I like the guy, and since I’m no longer a Cowboys fan, I’m looking for new players to root for, and frankly I would love to see RG III and Andrew Luck (and Russell Wilson?) duke it out for “best QB of 2012 draft” for years to come.

I don’t know yet if I’m an RGIII “fan.” We saw what happens when teams get tape on “option” QB’s and systems – this year with Cam Newton. I’m unconvinced about his accuracy as yet. I’m unconvinced that he isn’t, like Vick, have a “run first” mentality even though he has a pretty decent arm.
Yeah, I’m pretty much with you on Shanahan. He couldn’t win the big one with fripping ELWAY until he got an overpowering running game – and immediately lost the ability to win even the “small” games once he lost Elway and T.D. Hasn’t done anything in Washington – even now.
Luck looks like the real deal.
Wilson is short, man, short. But, of the “option” QB’s, he’s the best.
Currently, we have at least 4 teams who run some version of the “option:” San Francisco, Carolina, Washington, and Seattle. Add Philadelphia (Vick) to that (or wherever Vick goes) and there’s 5 with “running” Qb’s. Next year, probably a couple more. Jacksonville if they take Tebow, Arizona depending on who they take, same thing with Kansas City. Then, in 2 years, we get “Johnny Football.”
That will make at least 1/3rd of the teams with running/”option” Qb’s – the very kind of QB’s that LAST YEAR just about every pundit said “couldn’t work” in the NFL.
Yeah. It’s football. It’s man on man chasing the ball.
It works. The only question is whether or not the QB’s can SURVIVE 10-15 years playing this style as can a Manning or a Rodgers. Or, for that matter, if it even matters if they can draft another one upon need…
