I’ve posted a few times about my guitar playing. I’m mostly self-taught, but last month I started taking lessons. I’ve had five lessons now and there is definitely an improvement in my strumming skills, but I can’t really tell if it is enough of an improvement to be noticeable by others.
Anyway, I have an opportunity to play before a group of co-workers, and I am not sure I’m up to it. I don’t generally have performance anxiety, I’ve performed in plays and have spoken in front of hundreds of people at a time before without embarrassing myself, but this would be the first time I’ve played guitar in front of people.
Any advice out there?

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackKnow your music. Know what you are going to play and practice it enough you don’t have to really concentrate hard to play it. Nothing can replace that. I led worship at my church for 5 years, played the guitar, drums and piano.
Thanks Mr. Bob.
One thing I’m struggling with is whether to try to sing a song and play guitar at the same time. I don’t have a repertoire of lead guitar riffs or things to play, mostly I play chords from songbooks. I am mostly afraid if I tried that my voice would tighten up and I’d end up sounding like an idiot. But I don’t think I have the skills yet to play guitar just by itself and have it be worth listening to.
