“I know what you’re thinking punk. Did I choose Republican or Democrat last election? You know, in all the excitement and hype, I lost track myself. But what I have here in my hand is a United States Presidential Election ballot. It’s the most powerful ballot in the world. It will blow your ass clean out of the Oval Office. So you just have to ask yourself one question punk. Do you feel lucky?”

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackCosmic, I watched Eastwood’s speech at the convention last night (after being in the ER with #3 son for hours…long story).
He’s what???? 82?
I won’t live that long, but if I am cursed to endure life until then, I just HOPE that I end up with the same DOGAS (about what others think of me, or what I believe) as Clint.
Didn’t agree with some things he said…but loved the frank nature of it. I can respect ANYONE who is willing to put themselves out there, and not give one good goddam about what anyone else thinks.
Great line! I stole for my Facebook feed (with attribution of course)
Clint is one of my favorite Hollywood guys…and there aren’t many. He’s a great filmmaker. Check out Gran Torino, one of his recent efforts, if you haven’t already seen it.
Dadman, Clint is also one of the (scratch that…THE) favorites/favorite of The Mrs. I swear, I think I have been forced to watch High Plains Drifter, and Outlaw Josey Wales at least thirteen hundred times.
At least.
Thank God, we don’t do theater films much…or, I would have been at Gran Torino when it came to Bossier. She’s kinda’ dialed back the Clint love in recent years, but she looked at his speech last night.
She’s probably searching The Netflix as I type…better go check on her…
Heh!

I sometimes cringed at the act and other times laughed outright. Overall, while watching it, I felt the presentation to be out of place, even inappropriate, for prime time on the last night of the most important night for the Republican candidate for President.
Funny about that though. Seems that the “empty chair” bit has become something of an internet meme – both as a metaphor for the lack of leadership evidenced over the past 3 1/2 years and as a vehicle for visual mockery. (My favorite is a photo shop of Obama’s tweet of a picture of his empty chair from behind “this seat is taken” – with an Alfred E. Newman “what me worry” head poking over the back of the chair.)
Other lines from his performance have stuck with me – even moreso than ANY of the other speeches, including Rubio’s and Ryans’s. Some quick snippets:
“conservative
people by the nature of the word itself play closer to the vest. They do not go around hot dogging it.”
“Of course we all know Biden is the intellect of the Democratic party.”
“we own this country.”
“when somebody does not do the job, we got to let them go.”
I’m hot sure that I recall a single thing, specifically, from either Rubio’s or Ryan’s (very good) speeches.
But, those zingers from that Eastwood skit are sticking with me – and a whole lot of others as well.
That doddering old fool apparently knows his tradecraft…
Hmm… I didn’t watch any of it live. I’ve gotten to where I can’t watch politics on TV. I just get my blood pressure too high. I read the text of the speech and then watch the posted highlights on Youtube. I suspect a lot of people do the same thing.
As far as comments from the speeches are concerned, there are lots that stick with me. To me the most damaging comment of the convention which will have the most legs is Ryan’s “fading posters of Obama” in the childhood bedrooms of unemployed college students.
Romney’s best line was probably “the best feeling you had, was the day you voted for him.”
And the Arizona governor’s line “I realized we were Republicans!”
I think the main thing to take away from this convention is that there were several very good zingers that nailed Obama. The zingers also proved that Obama is truly as narcissistic as we thought. The fact that he felt it necessary to respond to Clint’s “empty chair” routine shows just how thin-skinned and self-important he really is.
As far as Clint’s routine is concerned, it was the most Alinskyite moment of the campaign so far. It was pure and unadulterated ridicule, personalizing the opponent and marginalizing him through mockery and derision.
And you can bet it stung.
I think the performance that Clint gave helps to set up the narrative for this election.
Clint effectively mocked Obama, and Obama – the thin skinned narcissist gave a stupid reaction that is hurting him. It should not be ignored either that Duh One showed a picture of the back of his throne, just as he has turned his back on just about everything American.
The leftists are going nuts, the articles are still being written slamming Clint. That wouldn’t be happening if it wasn’t effective.
The mockery of the teleprompter pointed to the empty chair. The perfect implied F-You commentary from Obama to Romney and Clint, as had been shown in pictures Obama doing just that to Hillary. The mockery of Obama not even being intellectually superior to Biden, the gaffe master.
Chrissy Mathews is at a point of fully going off the deep end and needing major therapy, as he keeps ranting while few but the brain-damaged liberals listen.
Clint also made mockery of Obama’s stuttering when he is off the teleprompter.
He turned Obama into a non-serious entity. It is all over the internet. There are tons of parodies being made of the empty chair, or bozo hair photoshop, Alfred E. Newman. Duh One being replaced by an empty chair in the Hope poster.
Clint left a mark that hurts.
Romney isn’t Reagan. He just can’t do that quip response, so he got the talent that could and did. That is what a good leader does, chooses the right talent for the right job.
