… has it been a major issue in the race so far?
As I recall there was a brief flare-up of anti-Mormon activity early in the primary campaign, but has there been much said or implied about it so far in the general campaign?

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThere have been some attacks – particularly from Axlerod. However, I think that the real “whisper campaign” will begin after the conventions when people start “paying attention.” If enough Republicans refuse to vote for a Mormon, it may be enough for Obama to win. Right now, it is my belief that this is the single most important and, perhaps, deciding factor in the election. (Bar an “October surprise.”)
So you think the Obama campaign is saving it up for a last quarter assault on the conservative evangelical base?
Do you think that picking an evangelical darling as VP would help Romney then? Someone like Mike Huckabee? I hear that Bobby Jindal is actually a favorite of the evangelicals in La. Is that true?
I think that the whisper campaign has already begun. It will increase in degree and intensity as the election approaches.
Depends on which evangelical is chosen. If he’s a milksop such as Huck then it won’t help, it’ll likely hurt.
Jindal may be the darling down here, but it’s a comparative thing, i.e., there ain’t a whole lot else to cheer for. Jindal has lost many conservatives here for a variety of reasons.
Personally, I’d like to see an articulate, aggressive, true blue conservative such as Allen West. The contrast between him and Biden would be jarring as would his in your face attitude towards progressives, race baiters, and Obama in particular would be just what conservatives need to gin them up for the election.
