From the moment that I heard the report that the Aurora shooter’s mother had reportedly said “you have the right person” I doubted that the report was accurate. Now we see this:
Arlene Holmes, the mother of Colorado theater shooting suspect James Holmes, says that ABC News mischaracterized her when it reported that her initial statement to the reporter, “you have the right person,” was a reference to her son.
I was talking to the Cosmic Daughter about this over the weekend. I said that it seemed virtually impossible to me that the story was accurate, and that the most likely scenario was that the mother was referring to herself when she said “you have the right person” after being woken up at 5:00 in the morning and being asked “are you the mother of XXXX who lives in Aurora?”
So now we have two instances from ABC News of inaccurate and irresponsible reporting from ABC News on one story.
If I had any respect for the news media, I’d have lost most of it…
