This is a photo from a major international news organization that accompanied yet another breathless article on the Aurora movie theater shooting.

The “arsenal” of a psycopath.
One semi-automatic rifle used throughout the world as a hunting rifle.
Two semi-automatic pistols considered among the most common self-defense weapons on the planet.
One standard 12 gauge shotgun.
Let’s see how that compares to my own “arsenal”.
I don’t have a semi-automatic rifle, but I have TWO rifles, one a lever-action Winchester, the other a single-shot bolt-action Remington .22. While a semi-automatic AR-15 can certainly shoot faster than a lever action, you can fire a lever action pretty dang fast too.
I only have one pistol though, it’s a six-shot Ruger .22 revolver, but it does shoot magnum loads.
I also have a 12 gauge shotgun.
But wait! There’s more!
I also have a high-powered pellet rifle that would easily deliver a fatal wound to a human. And I have a pump action pellet pistol that might not kill a person easily, but I wouldn’t want to get hit by one of its pellets either.
And then I have a wrist-rocket slingshot that is probably more lethal than the pellet pistol. I’ve punched steel ball-bearings through foam core and cardboard signs on the side of the road.
“Arsenal”. I know a dozen people who have more and more powerful guns than this guy.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThe semi-auto rifle has been reported as an AR-15, but it was actually a Smith&Wesson M&P. Not much different from an AR-15 but price with the S&W at $739-$1949.

Ah, thanks for the correction. I did actually see that but neglected to make the proper mental note and fell back on the “AR-15″ when I should have been more accurate.
