So, just a bit more than a month left before the Large Hadron Collider opens up and starts trying to dig a tiny bit deeper into the bottomless pit of the underlying physical laws of the universe. Of course since this is “big science” it’s got lots of panties all wadded up.
Some fear debut of [...]

Or however you spell it.
It has come to be the expectation with Pixar movies that they be of the utmost quality, have the highest standards of animation and writing, and appeal both to young children and adults alike.
And if you don’t find the fundamental premise of Wall*e supremely insulting and anti-capitalist, then you might find [...]

…. for now anyway. We just finished taking off all the plastic and masking tape on the living area downstairs and packing up all the paint tools. We still need to move the furniture back in and make room for the sewing table, etc… Still, it turned out pretty well, as these do-it-yourself things go.

What is concerning here is that four of our current Supreme Court justices did NOT find the Second Amendment constitutional. And when Obama nominates his picks for the court, you can be sure where they will stand on this issue. Well, at least for now I can keep my guns. Woohoo! Of course I haven’t [...]

Here’s a story I can really relate to.
An American Eagle flight taxiing to an RDU runway was turned around Monday, but not because of a terrorist threat. The crew was kicking an autistic Cary toddler and his mother off the plane.
As the American Eagle flight headed down the taxiway, 2-and a half-year-old Jarett Farrell wasn’t [...]

… because when I bought my first and second house I avoided adjustable rate mortgages like the plague because I considered them too risky and a bad bet, and so opted for the more conservative and more predictable (but with a higher initial monthly payment) fixed interest rate loans because I was too stupid to [...]

Every time I see the name of a celebrity that I watched and enjoyed in my youth, it makes me feel older and closer to the grave myself. George Carlin was only 71. Tim Russert passed away a few days ago, he was only 58 (ten years older than me).
I wasn’t a great fan of [...]

One thing about living in the mountains is that you really can get an appreciation for the power of a summer thunderstorm. The lightning and thunder just seems so close. The wind gusts seem to come from all directions and they batter the house like angry spirits. The trees whip back and forth and the [...]

is PAINTING!
Oh, I know you will find those, in the bloom of youthful naivetee, who will claim that painting is the “easy” part of painting and that the work done before and after is really the hard part, but you can simply laugh to yourself at such innocence, for you know that at the end [...]

… is PAINTING!!! It’s everything you have to do so you CAN paint, and everything you have to do once you’re DONE painting that’s hard
We just spent all day clearing out the downstairs family room, masking off all the doorways, and built in bookshelf, and putting plastic on the floor.
So now, of course, we’re too [...]

Google has launched an “X-Prize” like contest to reward the first private company that manages to land a mobile probe successfully on the moon with $20 million.
Welcome to a new kind of space race, where the earthly guest will be a machine and the goal is as much exploration as seeking out new business [...]

Obama promised to participate in the public funding process for his campaign should he get the nomination. His purpose in making the promise was to lay claim to an “even playing field” where the campaigns would be limited to a maximum amount of spending.
But now that he realizes that by breaking that promise he can [...]

This was SO much better than the first attempt at making a “Hulk” movie. I enjoyed it. The movie stuck more or less to the old Hulk I knew from the old comic books, you know, the one who says things like “Hulk SMASH!” to demonstrate his subtlety. And then he does smash. And it’s [...]

Where is Laura Ingraham? | Redstate
Where is Laura Ingraham?
It should not go unnoticed that one of the nation’s most popular radio hosts is off the air.
What happened? No one is talking. What I do know is that Laura wants to be back on the air. She does not want to be off the air.
You guys [...]

Obama: Bin Laden still free because of GOP tactics
WASHINGTON (AP) – Democrat Barack Obama says he’ll take no lectures from Republicans on who will keep America safer. GOP rival John McCain’s campaign criticized Obama Tuesday for speaking approvingly of the successful prosecution of terrorists.
A McCain aide [...]

Yes, it must be close to the end of times. Mother Nature is clearly out to purify herself of her pestilence of people. The midwest is pretty much underwater right now. And that is going to be bad news for gas and food prices.
The good news from all of this is the likely increased pressure [...]

Tiger Woods has the third round lead at the U.S. Open. He leads by one stroke at three under par. In Tiger terms, that would seem to be a disappointing performance, after all this is the man who won his first U.S. Open by lapping the field.
But this is a different Tiger Woods. This is [...]

ChordStrike: Moog Introduces Revolutionary New Guitar
I’m not one to typically lust after music gear, but this new guitar created by the geniuses over at Moog has me putting my credit card in a block of frozen ice to prevent me from pre-ordering it. Not only does this guitar feature [...]

Just to keep you all up to speed in with my virtual adventuring…
Things have slowed down rather dramatically in the past week or so. Where I had been moving multiple levels upward each day, now I’m more or less ignoring level entirely as I have focused on learning the more complex aspects of the game, [...]
