It’s been a good year so far for forest fires. I guess that’s over now. A wildfire that started yesterday morning has burned “dozens of structures” just west of Boulder. I’m not aware of much in that area except homes.. I hope everyone got out safely. Someething like 4,000 evacuations were ordered.

Arizona thought it had a steal when Leinart, who led Southern California to two national championships and a third title game appearance, fell to the Cardinals at the No. 10 overall pick in 2006. He started 11 games as a rookie under then-coach Dennis Green, then the first five the following season under new coach [...]

It was so chilly this morning that I put on a sweater to work in my home office since I didn’t want to turn on the heat in August.
When the sun finally broke through the trees, I went and lay down on the deck to allow the warmth of the sun to drive away the [...]

It rained again.
Our internet is down again.
They say “4 to 24 hours to fix” again.
So I’m patched through my droid again.
Stupid Qwest.
Next week I am going to look into any conceivable way of dumping Qwest.

So the Rockies had pulled to within one game of the NL West leading Padres on the last game before the all-star break. They had the starting pitcher in the all star game and had achieved this implausible status with four or five of their best players missing weeks or months to injury. Four of [...]

OK, so Sunday the Denver Broncos officially held their first 2010 practice sessions. They signed their final draft picks in the days just before that practice, and they have been blissfully free of team conflict, controversy, police reports or drug raids. And that’s an amazing thing when compared with the past five years or so [...]

I am typing this on my home computer, but I’m not sending it through my Qwest-connected DSL modem, because our internet has been out all day again today.
No, I’m sending this through my USB connected Droid smartphone. Because Qwest totally frickin’ sucks. I mean totally sucks.
See, it rained today. So we have no internet.
That’s how [...]

So, I’ve avoided posting about the Colorado Rockies because, as longtime readers of this site know, I am a Rockies jinx in every possible meaning of the word.
Still, in spite of my fandom, due to my diligent observance of my fundamental rule which is “Thou shalt not watch the Rockies on TV, nor shalt thou [...]

The Denver area has already hit triple digits this year. But it seems like only a few weeks ago that I was shoveling snow in my driveway…
Colorado…
The much higher than average snowpack from this winter is melting fast now, and that means flooding in most of Colorado’s rivers. Add the afternoon thundershowers falling on the [...]

So I’ve been thinking about life in general lately. I’m about to go on vacation and the first thing we will do when we land in Kentucky is head to a funeral. Those things always tend to focus your mind on your own life, for at least a few minutes. Also I had the experience [...]

Yeah, the Rockies are mired in mediocrity again. It was about this time last season after a somewhat slower start that the Rockies upper brass fired Clint Hurdle and replaced him with Jim Tracy, who presided over a remarkable climb from the NL West cellar to becoming a legitimate playoff contender (and actually making the [...]

Yesterday, at about the time I would normally be driving home, this happened.
This isn’t some remote mountain road, this is one of the busiest highways into and out of Denver. US 285 is the highway that I drive 60 miles on (30 miles there, 30 miles back) pretty much every day. Along with thousands of [...]

Looks like the Broncos traded down to pick up more draft picks. They picked Tim Tebow with the number 25 pick.
Let’s see, they traded away Some Cutler crybaby (forgot his first name) for Kyle Orton who had a pretty decent season, then they traded for Brady Quinn, and now they’ve drafted Tim Tebow?
FTW? Who’s running [...]

As I type this, the last bits of snow in my yard are probably melting away. By tomorrow I expect the snow to be gone (unless more snow falls today or tonight). Sunday was the first day this year I’ve been able to take the Cosmic Labrador out for her walk without having to trudge [...]

ATLANTA — Once Ubaldo Jimenez found the strike zone, the Atlanta Braves had no chance — and the Colorado Rockies had their first no-hitter.
Jimenez pitched the first no-hitter in the Rockies’ 18-year history and the majors’ first this season, getting help from a spectacular catch by Dexter Folwer in the seventh inning of a 4-0 [...]

Yes, we had rain at our house last night. Actual rain. Precipitation that was not in the form of a solid. Of course it just created a slick film of ice on the snow that didn’t melt, but it’s still a watershed moment in the advancement of the seasons. We’ll probably still get more snow, [...]
